ABOUT
Noted with Honor is a ministry, part of Stanton Nelson Ministries (a 501(c)3 non-profit organization), that draws upon the fields of theology, music therapy, and three psychotherapies in order to honor a hospice patient’s faith testimony through a narration of their life story in an original music composition. Stanton Nelson, founder of Noted with Honor, began this non-profit as a research initiative through the Doctor of Pastoral Music degree at Southern Methodist University in the fall of 2019. About three years later, in December of 2022, Stanton published a doctoral thesis about Noted with Honor. One main goal of Noted with Honor is to create a lyrical space for grief and the final preparation for death as it offers the patient and family a life review. In addition to providing a lyrical narration of the person’s life, the life review will be an opportunity to recount the salient experiences and points of accomplishment in the patient’s life. Four listening sessions are scheduled with the patient to hear the life testimony. The first session is more of a casual conversation with the patient while information is notated into musical sketches. In the second and third sessions emerging parts of the composition are shared with the patient to receive their feedback. The fourth session is the sharing moment: a performance in which the piece is played through once, reflected upon with the patient and family, and then played one more time. A copy of the score and an mp.3 recording are given to the patient and family. Please consider joining this meaningful journey of helping people transition from this life to the next with peace and dignity.
